My AI Resilient Journey - Part 1

As a resilience consultant, I wear many hats. I have multiple clients and I'm frequently involved in tasks like BIAs, writing business continuity plans, drafting crisis communications plans, building crisis response and running exercises. Recently, I started using a couple of AI tools to help me with my daily activities, and I wanted to share my experiences and insights. This AI tool has changed the way I work, allowing me to achieve better results in less time, benefiting both my clients and podcast listeners.

Think of this as my own AI Journal. It will grow over time and I'm allowing a peek behind the curtain so to speak. Come with me on this journey and maybe we can all learn something along the way. By the way, I'm not using AI to write this journal.

June 2025: Videos with Pictory

I have to give a shout out to my pal Jason Hoss for introducing me to Pictory. (pictory.ai). Pictory is an AI powered video generation platform. It generates videos from text and allows you to edit images, text and add voice-overs to create stunning videos in a fraction of the time it used to take me using PowerPoint. I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface of this tool yet, even though I created several very useful videos in June.

Using videos for Executive Training

I used Pictory for two important deliverables in June.

First, I have a client that (most of you) have an executive team with very little spare time. I figured that if I could streamline their training, and make it as easy as possible to learn, they would be more likely to engage. And I was right.

I created two videos for the Crisis Management Team. The first was a high level overview of the Crisis Management Plan. It walked them through the flow of the document, explained roles and objectives, etc. The video was two minutes long. The second was a three minute long video that walked them through the specific details of the cyber crisis response playbook. (I was running an exercise with them later in the month...wink wink, nudge nudge).

Five minutes - all in. Easy to watch. Great voice-over. It was a smash hit!

I also used the tool to create an amazing video outlining a cyber attack on a pretend company. This two-minute video laid out the details of the attack, showed ominous pictures of terrifying hackers demanding ransom. It was gripping. I used this in a presentation to the RIE (Resilience Information Exchange) Symposium in Toronto. I did a presentation on the use of AI in resilience and the audience was captured by the video.
